About the adviser

Ramon Beerens

Inland navigation has been a constant throughout my life. I was born into a barging family and worked from an early age during holidays and weekends on tugboats and a crane vessel. After military service, I went to sea and inland navigation professionally at the age of nineteen.

Career on board

My career started in dry cargo, followed by a short period in sea-going shipping. I then worked in dredging as a master, engineer and all-round crew member. Since 2005 my main focus has been tanker navigation, with experience on mineral-oil tankers, gas tankers and, in recent years, many chemical tankers.

I now have more than 20 years of experience as a master. Since 2020 I have worked as a relief master, which means working on different vessels, for different companies and with different crews, installations and operating methods. I have also worked regularly in container transport since 2020.

Translating regulations into practice

A safety issue on board is rarely just a regulation number. The vessel type, cargo, installation, work activity, crew and operating conditions all matter. I therefore combine regulatory requirements with practical experience.

This is also relevant to businesses that work with inland vessels but are not on board every day. A procedure, technical plan or working method may look logical on paper and still encounter practical limitations or safety risks on board.

Online service

My services are primarily online. Questions, documents, photographs and explanations can be assessed remotely and, where needed, discussed in an online meeting. A visit on board or at a site can be agreed if it adds substantive value and is practically possible.
